renaming Brown Dwarf (was Brooklyn Brown when I made this long ago) to continue an astronomical theme. Might compensate by upping the hops.
starter: usual thing except made 5/8 worth since I had 3/8 or so of a starter left from the last batch of Maple Way. This meant 5/8 cup DME, 12.5 oz water (which I increased to 14.5 oz because of the color) and 3ish "hop pellets". Temp was 80° when I shook it up. Basement temp is 70° (furnace in full force). Boiling 3 gallons of water also.
brewday: went w/recipe as is. Basement 68°, wort 65°. Have some yeast left.
thursday after brewing: added 10 oz of Keim Bros maple syrup which had been poured into 1 cup of boiling water. Waited 5 minutes for it to cool down a bit. (I was motivated to make this change to the recipe by the first recipe in "Extreme Brewing" by Sam Calgione, the founder of the best commercial brewery in the world: Dogfish Head. Since it was also a brown ale, the coincidence was too large to ignore.)
Wed night before bottling: pitched some more yeast
bottling: 44+4, leftovers fine

The recipes described indicate the ingredients I used to brew the beer. These may or may not match with the ingredients found in the cited references. For the authoritative clone recipe and complete descriptions of how to make any of these beers using either extract, mash or mini-mash methods consult the cited text. I heartily recommend the "clone" books referenced, any of them is well worth the small investment and will pay off in great beer.
